SliceCraft: out-sourcing to Europe

Roy Tomeij by Roy

Recently we started a new service called SliceCraft. We heard so many people complain about the (lack of) quality of overseas slicing companies (who turn a PSD into HTML/CSS) that we figured we could do better. On top of that we decided to enhance this kind of service by also providing HAML/SASS and image sprites.

Front-end (HTML, CSS and JavaScript; the stuff that gets send to your browser) is a major factor in how your visitors perceive your website. The loading time largely depends on front-end architecture (image sprites, minification, best performing order of loading JavaScript, etc). And Google only sees your front-end, so from an SEO standpoint proper code is important (luckily, search engine friendly code also works wonders for alternative user agents, such as screen readers, mobile devices, etc). You should make it count, and we can help you do that while offering competitive rates.

Wondering how can we deliver great quality for a nice price? This is for a large part because we don't out-source. We have very competent front-end developers that deliver a level of quality 99% of the overseas slicing companies can't compete with. That's because we are good, but also because the overseas slicing companies tend to use the poor developers for the slicing jobs, since it's "only front-end". You need to go back and forth with most overseas companies to get the details right, and that just costs you too much time. We do it right the first time, saving both us and our clients a lot of valuable time. The less time it takes to turn your design into proper code, the cheaper we can work and the happier you will be. On top of that we have streamlined our process to cut back on project management time by automating recurring tasks, such as putting previews online and delivering the final code (all in a neatly organized ZIP-file).

With this service we are targeting companies and free-lancers that want to out-source their front-end development to an established company where they know they will find a level of quality that's up to European standards. Within this range we focus on people working with Ruby on Rails, since they are the most likely to use HAML and SASS. That said, the outputted HTML and CSS is still very well suited for any other language like PHP, Python or .Net (and many more).

So, where's the "100% satisfaction or your money back"-guarantee? We don't have any. What good is it to any client to reach a deadline, get code that's unusable and get a full refund? We figured a "100% satisfaction guarantee" is all our clients are looking for, by delivering on time, on budget and high quality code. If you do find an issue (it happens), we will correct them for free, asap.

Why not give it a try by asking us for a quote? We can base it on your PSD or any other image format. You can upload your designs directly or share via online sharing services (like YouSendIt). Naturally, we promise not to share your data or files with anyone. Even if we end up doing business together, we won't include your name or your project in any portfolio.
